MCCC Theme Competition 'Movement' 2021
Despite months of restrictions and a number of local and national lockdowns and of course numerous Zoom meetings, the Club year has gone rather quickly with the end of the season just around the corner. That must mean it is time for our ‘Theme’ competition. This year’s competition is all about ‘movement’ and we were very well prepared by Paul Dunmall’s presentation which we had a few weeks ago.
Besides the Theme signifying the end of the monthly competitions it also marks the end of the photographer of the year competition. This has been a close-fought battle, initially between three members and more recently two members. Going into this competition, Ian Whiston was leading Ray Girling by 1.5 marks. We will find out later what happened.
Judging our competition tonight is Paul Dunmall (CPAGB, QGP) from Bexhill Camera Club in East Sussex. As I mentioned above, we introduced Paul a few weeks ago. Having him judging our theme competition on the very subject he presented to us is a great thing and should give a good form of judging consistency throughout the competition.
Paul has a solid way of judging competitions. He is fair and unambiguous and has good attention to detail. Bearing in mind this is a themed competition, Paul was keen to ensure all images fitted the brief and any images landing, in Paul’s opinion, outside the brief were marked accordingly. Paul offered advice as to how certain images or aspects of them could be improved, which was sound advice. Paul was keen to suggest the use of vignettes to darken down the edges of images. Paul made a positive comment about being impressed by the variety of images he had to judge and how members had interpreted the theme.
The results from Paul’s marking are as follows:
|1st||Paul Wilcock||Leap of Faith||20|
|2nd||Sheila Regan||Tidal Power||19.5|
|3rd||Ray Girling||Take Off||19|
|4th||Ray Girling||The Gambler||18.5|
Congratulations to all the winners and runners up and a thank you to all the members taking part. A second congratulations go to Ray Girling for winning the Photographer of the year competition, beating Ian Whiston by 4 points.
A final big thank you to our Judge, Paul Dunmall who provided fair and constructive feedback throughout the whole evening. We look forward to hopefully seeing him next year.
