Small Prints Competition October 2018
Last Wednesday evening was the first of the season’s Small Prints Competitions. Members brought along in total 38 small (A4) prints and it was the job of the 25 members present to choose their top 5 images.
As usual, there was a wide variety of subjects from insects mating to brown bears playing, from a ballet dancer to a pirate, from a peaceful view of a Welsh mountain to an exotic seascape. The standard of images was high, so deciding on the “best” was extremely difficult and very personal.
We were reminded of the difficult task faced by a judge who typically has to find a winner out of over 70 images on a competition night. This is a skill that improves with experience and within the world of camera club photography - sharpness and correct exposure are paramount. Once these boxes are ticked, it comes down to personal preference and separating the images that you like is the really hard part. Our “judges” on Wednesday only had one rule and that was not to vote for their own print!
While the score sheets were totted up members chatted amongst themselves over a cuppa before Chairman Ian announced the winners in reverse order.
